Are you aspiring to participate in International Olympiads
If you are having interest to compete for International Science Olympiads 2007 please see the details as under:
India has been participating International Science Olympiads since a decade, HBCSE (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education) Mumbai is the nodal centre for Olympiad programs in Physics,Chemistry,Biology ,Mathematics and Astronomy
International Olympiads 2007 in Physics will be held in Iran, Chemistry in Russia, and
Biology in Canada.
Science and Astronomy National Olympiads programs that lead participants to the International Olympiads has been implemented by HBCSE (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education) in collaboration with IAPT (Indian Association of Physics Teachers) and IACT (Indian Association of Chemistry Teachers) and Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai..
You need to go through the following five stages to participate in the International Olympiads in Physics Chemistry Biology and Astronomy

Stage 1: National Standard Examination
Stage 2: Indian Nation Olympiads
Stage 3: Orientation cum selection camps
Stage 4: Pre departure training camps
Stage 5: International Olympiads

Stage: I
National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP)
National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC)
National Standard Examination in Biology (NSEB)
National Standard Examination in Astronomy (NSEA)

Eligibility: For NSEP, NSEC and NSEB; Science students of Class XII students and
Below, Students who have passed class XII are not eligible.
Students may appear for more than one NSE.
Eligibility: For NSEA Junior category Class VIII, IX and below;
For NSEA Senior category Class X and XI
Last date for Enrolment: 15th September 2006
Date of Examination : 26th November 2006
Physics: 9am to 11.30am
Chemistry: 12.30pm to 2.30pm
Biology: 3pm to 4.30pm
Astronomy: 3pm to 5pm

If your school /college is a registered NSE center then you may enrol your name by paying the required fee if not than look for a near by NSE centre for enrolment.
Total 250 toppers in each subject will be selected for the second stage.

NSE (National Standard Examination) pattern

NSE Physics:
Part A:
Multiple choice Questions: Out of total 50questions 40 Questions have only one correct answer among the four options given. Remaining10 Questions have more than one correct answer; student must pick all correct answers.
Part B:
Short answer type Questions: 5 short answer type questions /problems

# Past question papers for NSE can be obtained by sending DD of Rs150 in favour of IAPT payable at Pune to Professor M L Ogalapurkar co-ordinater (address mentioned below) mentioning complete address.

NSC Chemistry: Consists of 100 multiple choice questions. Each question has only one correct option.

NSE Biology: Consists of 100 multiple choice questions. Each question has only one correct option.

Note: There is no detailed syllabus for Physics, Chemistry and Biology; students are advised to prepare for CBSC XI and XII class syllabus. Emphasis should be given to a complete understanding of the subject as well as practical application rather than rote learning.

NSE Astronomy: Junior and Senior examinations as mentioned above
Multiple choice questions: Out of total 35 questions 25 Questions carry two marks each, have only one correct answer among the four options given. Remaining 10 Questions carry 5 marks each; these questions have more than one correct answer. Student must pick all correct answers.
There is no detailed syllabus for the NSE Astronomy. The secondary School level (X Class) syllabus can be the base of reference for junior, while the syllabus is equivalent to class XII (CBSE) for Seniors. Students require a good understanding of basic physics and Mathematics along with general knowledge about Astronomy.

Stage: II
The national top 250 toppers in each NSE are eligible for the Indian National Olympiad

Tentative dates :Indian National Olympiads Examination are as follows
Physics (INPhO): January 28th 2007 9am to 1.30pm
Chemistry (INChO): January 27th 2007 1pm to 5pm
Biology (INBhO): January 28th 2007 2pm to 4pm
Astronomy (INAhO): January 27th 2007 2pm to 4pm

The final Indian team for International Olympiads for Physics, Chemistry and Biology will be trained at HBCSE and for Astronomy at Nehru Science Centre Mumbai.
