Government Of India (GOI) offers Fellowships for science students through Kishore Vaigyanik Prothsahan Yojana (KVPY) by the Department of Science and Technology
Encouraging students of basic Science, Engineering and Medicine to take up research careers; Kishore Vaigyanik ProthsahaYojana (KVPY) by the Department of Science and Technology GOI offers fellowships of Rs 2000 to Rs 5000 per month. Summer programme is an important part of the fellowship. Annual renewal of fellowships is subjected to maintain good academic performance and satisfactory outcome of summer programme.

The following are the three streams for which fellowships are offered:

Basic Sciences
Engineering
Medicine

Basic Science:
Stream SA: Science students joining class XI with a minimum of 75 percent aggregate in science and mathes (65per cent for SC/ST) in 10th standard.
If the selected students for Fellowship opt out of science stream at the end of class XII will forgo Fellowship.
Stream SB: Students pursuing first year BSc degree in basic science with a minimum of 60 percent marks in aggregate in science and mathematics in class XII (50 percent for SC/ST)
Stream SP: Students pursuing class XI, XII in basic having secured a minimum 60 percent marks (50 percent for SC/ST) aggregate in class X and XI and completed a science based research project. The report of the project is to be submitted along with the application.
International Olympiads automatically qualify for Fellowship provided completed 10th class and continue studying in science subjects.
Engineering:
Stream EA: Student joining first year BE/B Tech/B Arch having secured minimum of 60 percent marks (50 percent for SC/ST) aggregate in Maths and Science in class XI. A research project is required.
Stream EB: Students joining second year BE/B Tech/B Arch having a minimum of 60 percent marks (50 percent for SC/ST) in first year exam of BE/B Tech /B Arch. A research project is required.
Medicine:
Stream MA: Student joining MBBS having secured minimum of 75 percent marks (65 percent for SC/ST) aggregate in science subjects in class XI. A research project is required.
